Description
Alex is fairly average in terms of height and weight, has short brown hair and otherwise doesn't stand out too much. He usually dresses in jeans and a green and white horizontally striped shirt with "celtic" printed in small letters on the back just below the collar. His accent is strong, but not completely un-understandable. And he's trying very hard to learn how to speak "American".
My So-Called Life
Alex is a foreign exchange student from Scotland. He just arrived, and is still trying to settle in. Other than just wandering around with his host family (they've been very gung-ho to show him the local history, and most weekends have been spent driving to various New England sites), he's been spending most of his free time exploring the town, poking around the various stores, and generally trying to pick up American English.
Alex is a star soccer player (starting center midfielder), and is also the kicker for the Football team. He spends a lot of time in the library reading. He's a good student in English, history, and art, but his science/math skills are average at best. For someone who wears a letter jacket (weird American habit...but it helps him fit in), he really seems to enjoy his classes.
Alex is a pretty quiet and inward focused sort of a guy. He's friendly and polite (always polite), but doesn't spend a lot of effort on social interactions. If they happen, great, if not...ah well, more time to spend reading. Even though he's a star athlete, he doesn't exactly move with the cool and popular crowd. He gets respect for his athletic talents, but they don't invite him to the weekend parties, and he's just fine with that. He spends most of his free time in the library or at the Sacred Grounds where he can read in peace and quiet. The library's quieter, but the Sacred Grounds serves cider.
He has at two separate times stepped into the middle of a fight in the halls and broken it up. On both occasions he seemed rather surprised that no one else had stepped in sooner.
Since he's been here, Alex has managed to work a minor miracle in training the Marshall family dog. It was (in)famous for being out of control...but Alex has got doing some of the basics (stay, sit, etc) and is working on some more advanced training now.
When We Were Kids
Alex grew up in Scotland. That didn't offer him much of a chance to socialize with the rest of the cast when he was a wee one.
Family
Alex is staying with the Marshall family while their daughter Jennifer is doing foreign exchange in France. The whole family has gotten into the foreign exchange thing and they've taken it upon themselves to show Alex around and make sure he gets a good feel for America and local Massachusetts culture.
