English. Bookish. Tweed is strongly implicated.

My So-Called Life
He's been cloistered, almost monk-like, during his entire time as a Watcher. He's spent all his adult life locked away, studying the old, old books that the Watchers Council has collected over the centuries.

He's not unaware of the modern world and pop culture, or contemptuous of it, he just believes that it's utterly unimportant, compared to the things he knows about from studying prophecy and the ancient tomes.

He's not opposed to fighting himself when it's necessary, but his years of study have not really given him a good background for it.

Family
Hartsdale's parents were both part of the Council and he grew up in the Chapterhouse. Three or four times a year, the family on an outing, to the zoo or the cinema. The rest of the time was training, and the archives, studying.
