Councilman James Bright, City Council Winter Carnival Committee Chair
This year's Winter Carnival Theme is A Festival of Lights. Public buildings and streets in the Old Town area will be decorated with brilliant and festive displays of holiday lighting. Businesses are encouraged to pull out all the stops in constructing grand lighting displays this year. Let's all band together and make Solomon shine!
8:00-9:00 - Parade (Old Town)
9:00-9:30 - Program (City Hall)
9:30-9:45 - Fireworks (City Hall)
As in previous years, the parade route begins at Solomon High and winds through Old Town to end in front of City Hall.
As part of the carnival program, prizes will be awarded to the best floats. Prizes will be awarded in three categories:
Any local business or civic group may enter a float, see Councilman Bright to obtain a permit. Staging for the parade will be in the Solomon High student parking lot. Entrants should plan to arrive no later than 7:00 pm. After completing the parade, floats should proceed to the parking lot behind city hall.
Ice sculptors will be at work throughout the weekend creating wintry works of art. Sculptures will be on display on the lawn in front of City Hall where they will remain until they melt.
As part of the carnival program, a prize will be awarded for the best ice sculpture. Judging will be by the Solomon Council for the Arts.
Sculptors are encouraged to incorporate light into their sculptures. All sculptures should be completed by Monday morning to allow time for judging. Interested parties should contact Councilman Bright for assignment of an appropriately-sized space on the City Hall lawn. Please indicate the approximate size of your sculpture when submitting your application.
A contest will be held to determine the young lady who best represents the spirit of Solomon and the Winter Carnival. The winner will be announced as part of the carnival program. Judging will be by the Solomon Chamber of Commerce.
